RIP Roy Slade
Racing Club Warwick is sad to report that former racer’s forward Roy Slade has passed away.
Roy was part of the RCW team that reached the fourth round of the FA Vase in the 1977/78 season. Managed by George Anderson the racers beat four teams before losing to Irthlingborough Diamonds in the 4th round replay. That team included Ian Montgomery, Stuart Fisher and Malc Hyland. Roy also talked about Cliff Morby, Duncan Gardner and Paul Coleman at the club, he had fond memories of his time at Hampton Road. Roy began his career At Triumph Athletic and was selected for the Birmingham FA team. Roy played for Bournemouth youth team in one game he played against a 17 year old Liam Brady for Arsenal. Roy said that he was a special player and destined for great things. Roy played for local teams Coventry Sporting, Bedworth United, Massey Ferguson , Kenilworth Town and Hinckley United. He played to a good standard into his 40s even winning the Birmingham junior cup with Coventry side Highway FC. Roy was a life long Coventry City fan and his favourite player was Ian Gibson from the 66/67 Second Division championship winning team.
A true gentleman , Roy will be very much missed by many. Our sincere condolences to his family and friends.
