Racing Club Warwick's good start to the season took a pause on Saturday as they lost 3-1 to Coventry Sphinx.
After some great cup victories and an unbeaten start to the league campaign Racing were unfortunate in midweek to lose out to a late winner at Khalsa and now the defeat at near neighbours Sphinx saw them lose back to back games.
Fortune Maphosa headed over from a corner early doors and then ex Racer Tom Cross saved well from a Luke Rowe free kick but it was Sphinx who opened the scoring when the ball held up in the wind from Ganley's kick and Ashanti Price did superbly well to round Ganley and slot home on 29 minutes.
Second half and Racing looked to move the ball around better and Rowes shot was charged down but he headed back to Guiseppe Miuccio who's rasping shot was turned over by Cross. Nick Seabourne headed wide from a Sam Jackson corner and it was looking better for Racing. Reece Ford had a long range effort that went just wide and Sam Jackson had a free kick charged down before firing in another shot that was deflected over for the corner. Maphosa then did well to marshall out the impressive Pryce but Sphinx then doubled their lead when Lawrence Rawlings smashed home unmarked on 66 minutes. It was all Sphinx now and the third killed off any Racing hopes of getting anything from the game. Pryce did well to seek out Bryson who's header was well saved by Ganley but from the corner Mohamed Billy headed back the cross for Pryce to nod home all too easily. Jackson cut inside well before firing wide and Callum Woodward fired wide for the hosts before a very late Seabourne header pulled one back for Racing.
The Racers travel to Wulfrunians on Tuesday who will be looking to avenge the FA cup defeat they suffered at Townsend Meadow.
