Racing take it to the wire

Racing Club Warwick took the promotion push to the wire with a hard working performance against a well organised Uttoxeter side.

On a warm afternoon and just two days after the thumping 8-0 win over Heath Hayes in their final home game on Saturday, Racing were professional throughout the game and with Adam Knight the only absentee from Saturday and with Chris Jonstone back in to replace him they showed more consistency than in previous weeks. Racing looked comfortable on the ball and early shots from Henry Leaver and Joe Smith and an effort just wide from Ben Mackey in the first fifteen minutes showed Racing's intent. Trea Bertie beat the right back but his hard shot went over. Then on 34 minutes a super free-kick from Henry Leaver was headed back across the goal by Scott turner and there was Ben Mackey to head into the roof of the net.

Second half and within a minute Uttoxeter won a free-kick. Charlie Bannister did well to keep out the superb effort from the kick but the rebound was kicked back onto the post and just over the line by Auery.

Racing had to go again and the game was heating up. Joe Smith went into the book after receiving a high boot and had a shot saved by the keeper. Sean Castleton then had a shot saved and Racing were piling on the pressure and on 60 minutes they got their reward. Superb work from Trayvon Powell fed Mackey who run at the defender before unleashing a shot into the bottom corner from 12 yards. Mackey and Bertie had further shots wide and as the game went on Racing were looking tired. Uttoxeter upped the pressure and had one shot just wide before Marc Passey superbly cleared off the line. But on 87 minutes Richard Powell upended a Uttoxeter player. Up stepped Liversace who had just come on as a substitute and to the relief of the Racing contingent he blazed over.

Racing go into the final game of the season at Stapleton knowing that a better result than that of Atherstone, who face Champions Heather St John's, will see them promoted.
