Racing Club Warwick travelled to Atherstone looking to put some clear daylight between them and their hosts but ended up with the Adders very much back in the title hunt.
Having gone 12 league game unbeaten since Atherstone had beaten Warwick at the reverse fixture, Racing were looking to distance themselves by some 9 points and started brightly with a lot of possession but it was Atherstone who had the first chance when Kieron Brehon fired straight at Charlie Bannister after the Adders had moved the ball well from the left. Lewis Heydon fired just over from 25 yards with the Adders keeper saving the shot well. Warwick were enjoying the greater possession without creating too many chances and Atherstone looked dangerous on the break. Scott Turner header just wide from a George Curry free-kick as the half came to a scoreless end.
Second half and it started tightly before a super one two between Brehon and Alex Naughton saw Brehon fire home past Bannister. Racing replaced Cresswell with Luke Cole who was just back from injury and immediately a Curry corner saw Cole crash his header against the crossbar with his first touch. Ben Mackey forced a fine save from the Adders keeper before Curry got to the touch line and the ball agonisingly evaded all in the box as the Adders held on to gain a league double over the Racers.
