Racing Club go second with 9th straight win

Racing Club Warwick recorded a ninth straight league win to move into second place in the Midland Football League Division One.

Warwick had the perfect start when Ben Mackey controlled, turned and fired low across the Burbage keeper Alec Hill on 4 minutes. Mackey was causing Burbage all sorts of problems and his clever flick put Trea Bertie in but Hill saved superbly with the saved shot just evading Mackey's follow-up. Mackey was denied with another fine save and it was all Racing Club but Burbage were well organised and resilient and got an equaliser after a scrambled effort bobbled around the six yard box before being bundled over the line. The game then descended into 5 minutes of farce after what looked like a 50 50 tackle the Burbage number 6, Nathan Astill, went down holding his face. The referee and officials were fortunately not conned and the player received a yellow card for obvious simulation.

Second half and Warwick upped the ante. Mackey was foiled by the excellent Hill once again and Jack Cresswell had a rocket of a shot well blocked. Danny Bartle was introduced to the game and with his clever play added to the mix and with Richard Powell ploughing down the left time and again, Racing were now carving out more and more chances and Lewis Hayden fired just over from distance. For all the pressure it took until the 79th minute for Racing to take the lead. A superb flick past the defender by Hayden and pinpoint delivery picked out Mackey who made no mistake heading home to the delight and relief of the Racing faithful. Burbage heads went down and just a minute later a magnificent through ball from Mackey sent Bertie through and he chipped delightfully past Hill to wrap things up.

Racing face Leicester Road on Saturday before playing Uttoxeter Town on Tuesday, both home at Townsend Meadow.
