Racing win 8th on the bounce

Racing Club Warwick recorded their second 5-1 win over Hinckley in three weeks as they thumped the hosts at the Welfare Ground.

Warwick chalked up an eighth straight win to keep up the pressure at the helm of the table and were 4-0 up by half time.

With Luke Cole and George Curry unavailable, Chris Johnston and Danny Bartle returned to the starting line-up with Johnston in particular standing out throughout in a man of the match performance.

Just two minutes had passed when Warwick took the lead when Ben Mackey was tripped by Callum Willimont and Mackey lashed home the resultant spot kick.

Tyrone Burton was not far from sliding home an equaliser for Hinckley a few minutes later but the ball just evaded him.

Chris Johnston curled a shot just wide of the far post, Marc Passey slashed a shot just wide and Mackey had a second chalked off for offside before Trea Bertie added a Racer's second on 18 minutes with a super twist and shot into the bottom corner.

Charlie Bannister saved an effort from the hosts and his superb long ball found Bertie who controlled well before slipping the ball into the net for his second and Racing's third on 37 minutes.

Richard Powell cut inside and fed Bertie who narrowly fired wide and a Bertie show was deflected wide for a corner from which Daniel Bartle’s delivery was met by a powerful header from the unmarked Joe Smith at the far post for the fourthb.

Liam Cross then had one cleared off the line for Hinckley but it was 0-4 at half time.

Bannister tipped over well from a long range effort and a super through ball from Jack Cresswell saw Bertie strike the post and George Warren saved well from Mackey’s rebound effort.

Mackey almost got his second after strong play held of the defender but Warren saved well.

The fifth was a fantastic team effort. Mackie slipped a ball through for Bertie and again Warren saved well but Henry Leaver layed the ball square to Mackey who blasted high into the net.

Warren saved again from Leaver and pushed Bertie’s effort onto the post, before he combined with Cross to block out Mackey who should have got his hat trick.

Hinckley did grab a consolation in the final minute of normal time when Burton was upended by Lewis Hayden in the box and Belcher stepped up to send Bannister the wrong way.
