Warwick tear Nuneaton apart in second half wonder show

Racing Club Warwick produced some of the finest football seen at Townsend Meadow for many years as they reduced Nuneaton Griff to a forlorn wreck of a team. On a day that well over a 100 fans stood together to pay their respects to one of their own in Gabby Hayes, who passed away shortly after the Racers last home fixture, Warwick performed well and a more fitting performance and result could not have been prescribed.

The first half was a fairly even affair possession wise but it was Racing who were more threatening. Sean Kavanagh twice should of opened the scoring when through one on one but his shots grazed the outside of the post on both occasions. Tom Cross saved well down to his right mid way through the first half from a Tom Brennan deflected shot and the first half ended with no-one expecting the onslaught to come.

The second half had barely started when a horrible challenge on debutant Josh Cole saw Fraser Mullins sent off and Cole limping off after what looked like a far worse injury than it turned out. Slevins free-kick was saved well by keeper Huskins but continual pressure from Warwick paid off when on 60 minutes with substitute Luke Church heading on a corner for Kavanagh to nod in. Two minutes later and the game changing Church fired home again after the keeper had saved from a Luke Cole effort.

Racing were now rampant and a pin-point Church cross found Luke Cole who's curled volley nestled just inside the keepers left post on 65 minutes. Skipper Price then scored a pearl with a chip shot that flew into the top right after some fantastic and quick football.

Lewis Hudson came on for Warwick to make his debut after his move from Coventry United and he looked assured in defence and menacing moving forward. Kavanagh wrapped up the scoring after a lovely Church and Knight one-two saw him beat the keeper well.

Warwick go into Saturday's second round proper FA Vase game against Alsager Town in fine form.

Racing Club Warwick: Cross, Taylor, Billington (Hudson 73), Passey, Coleman, Price ©, J.Cole (Church 50), Powell, Slevin, L.Cole (Knight 73), Kavanagh. Subs not used: M. Ellis, Hutchcox.
