Racing Club Warwick's fine run of form, which had taken them up to fourth in the table, came to an abrupt end at home to Heath Hayes. The afternoon started solemnly as a minutes silence was observed for former Racing, Leamington and Southam player Neale Perry who had passed away a few days earlier. Warwick were dealt a blow in the warm up with Buswell injuring his knee and without Brown, Checketts and long term injury to skipper Reynolds, Warwick again relied on youth from the bench, highlighting the slim nature of their squad. The game kicked off and within 10 seconds racing were behind. From Wares kick off Partridge played in fullback Phillips who ran unchallenged before coolly lobbing the advancing keeper to score from 25 yards. Minto, Burke and Delaney were all denied by Caviezel-Cox as Hayes threatened to run riot. With Racing looking unusually off the pace, Ware scored a spectacular goal on 37, cutting in from the left and firing into the roof of the net from a good 30 yards. Racing started the second half with all guns blazing but the Hayes defence withstood the early barrage with the assured handling of keeper Mark Wiggins. On 61 Warwick were awarded a penalty when Malley was pushed over and Smith crashed the ball on the underside of the bar to reduce the deficit. It was all Racing now and twice Wright was played in and despite good control was unable to level the game up. With time ebbing away Minton finished Racing off after a Turton back pass was intercepted and he could rounded the keeper to wrap up the points. MOM Martin Slevin, attendance 121
