Racing Club Warwick kicked off the new season avenging last season's FA Cup exit to the same opponents, Wulfrunians, and booked themselves a ticket into the next round with a tasty tie at home to Bedworth United.
The new look Racers with several academy players in the squad, complimenting an exciting mix of youth and experienced players, started on the front foot with some neat interchanges early on but it was Wulfrunians who almost scored but for a fine double save from new stopper Brandon Ganley. Racing then almost took the lead after some great possession play saw Callum Maspers deliver a fine cross but Tom Smiths smart volley was just over. Racing did then take the lead on 25 minutes when Antonio jinked inside before playing out to Maspers who's cross was met on the volley by Tory Herbert but his shot was saved only for Sam Jackson to fire crisply into the roof of the net.
The midfield of Keasey, Smith and Rowe were now pulling the strings and they kept the ball moving wide to Antonio and Jackson and the second goal was inevitable and came on 34 minutes. Antonio initially lost possession but showed great determination to nick the ball back off the defender and cleverly poke through to the alert Smith, who's finish was sublime with the left foot.
Keasey then fed Jackson out wide and his run ended with a long range effort that just dipped over.
Second half and Joe Davison was introduced early and Racing kept the momentum up, restricting Wulfrunians to few attempts with Maspers and Dan Purvin superbly marshalling the best Wulfs threats out wide and the central pairing of skipper Mason Rowley and Fortune Maphosa looking assured together. Wulfs best chance of the half saw Ganley with another double save. Nick Seabourne came on and held the ball up well and his early effort was saved by the Wulfs keeper.
Davison broke up a Wulfs move and gave the ball to Seabourne who's decisive through ball was cleverly back-heeled by Smith into Jackson who lofted the ball over the keeper from 30 yards to cap a fine performance from himself. Davison headed straight at the keeper before a long range effort from Keasey just went over the bar and then Rowe created space for himself before a long range effort went just wide.
Racing travel to Gresley Rovers to open their league campaign on Saturday before travelling to Lye on Tuesday.
