Racing crash out of FA Vase

Racing Club Warwick's spirited late fightback was not enough to negate the earlier capitulation in the FA Vase on Saturday as they crashed out of the FA Vase.

Long Eaton started the game brightly and had a lot of ball early on as Warwick struggled to get a foot hold in the game. An early free kick effort from Jude Brittain went just wide of Charlie Bannister's goal before Johnson fed Trea Bertie who's shot went inches wide in Warwick's only real attempt in the first half. Long Eaton took the lead via the penalty sport after Kevin Thornton inexplicably pushed David Kolodynski back to the ground after the referee had already waved away the initial penalty appeals. Niall Towle stepped up to fire home and give United a deserved lead.

Second half and within two minutes Long Eton had doubled their lead. Towle crossed well for an unmarked Kolodynski to head home and things went from bad to worse just a few minutes later. Danico Johnson was put through by Danny Fraser but his shot went horribly wrong and Racing were made to pay immediately. Kolodynski again in the action, picked the ball up on the touchline and managed to squirm his way round Sean Castleton and put in a low cross that Towle bundled home.

If the home contingent thought it was now damage limitation they were gladly proved wrong as Racing suddenly woke up. The ever impressive Dale Wigmore picked up a loose back pass and prodded home before Castleton wrong footed the Long Eaton keeper to set up a grand-stand finale. Kevin Thornton crashed a 20 yard curled effort against the bar before a superb knock back by Adam Miles almost saw several Racing players scramble the ball over the line but it was not to be and Racing were out of the Vase.

Racing travel to Banbury United on Tuesday evening in the Birmingham Senior Cup, kickoff 745.
