Racing Club Warwick marched into the First Round Proper of the FA Vase with a consummate performance against Coventry Copsewood. The sides had met just a few weeks previously with Warwick edging the game 1-0 and so a tight affair was predicted at Townsend Meadow in the glorious Autumn sunshine. With Price missing with illness and top scorer Knight away, the forward line saw Kavanagh and Cole lead. A big crowd had just settled in when a Cole shot was superbly saved by the Copsewood keeper to applause from former Racer and West Brom stopper Ben Foster. The resulting corner was forced out but Leaver drilled the ball home from the edge of the box. Just a minute later and a shell-shocked Copsewood must of wondered what had hit them. Vadasz put over a super cross for the effervescent Church to head home. Church then turned provider as he set up Kavanagh to score on his home debut on 25. Cole then effectively ended the game before half time, again Vadasz superbly setting him up to crash the ball home. Second half and Warwick almost scored right from the off but the ball was scrambled away. Copsewood gave themselves a glimmer of hope with a goal on 63 but it was to be a consolation goal as Racing piled on further misery. Cole fired home after another assist from the impressive Vadasz on 65 and a minute later Kavanagh helped himself to his second. It was a race for the hat-trick now and Cole got it on 83 to take the match ball and send the crowd home praising the good football and looking forward to the draw for the next round.
