Racing Club Warwick marched into the next round of the FA Vase with an emphatic away win at Leicester Road. Warwick, missing several players for various reasons gave debuts to Holland, Mullen and Jaynes and a first start for Matt Taylor and they helped provide the Racers best performance of the season. The heavens had opened early afternoon and the game was in doubt an hour before kickoff, with the Leicester Road staff frantically forking and removing water, but a grand job was done and the game kicked off on time. Racing hit the bar three times in the first half from Manoochehri and Knight and a 35 yard screamer from Vadasz threatening to end the game due to damaged goal infrastructure. With all the possession and with Stephens and Church continually pulling the full backs apart, Racing took the lead on 13 when Knight showing great strength breezed past the full back and with the keeper advancing coolly firing home. It was all Warwick and the only surprise was it took until the 29th minute to double the lead. Knight went marauding down the right and put in a fierce cross to the far post where Manoochehri headed powerfully back across the keeper into the corner. Five minutes later and Warwick effectively ended the game. A Price throw was flicked on by Slevin and Knight headed home. A well worked move yet again and with Leicester Road's few attacks being marshalled superbly by Holland and Taylor the only shot they mustered was a headed effort easily saved by Cross. If Warwick thought they might have been bombarded second half they need not have worried as good possession football ensured Leicester Road had no opportunity to attack them. The excellent Stephens supplied Knight in the 57th minute and he clipped the ball past the despairing keeper to make it four and gain a deserved hat-trick. Leicester Road got a consolation in the 68th minute with Kennedy scoring but Warwick comfortably went into the next round and will face Coventry Copsewood in the next round at Townsend Meadow on September 23rd.
