Racing Club Warwick took their attacking fine form into their first home game and picked up all three points against a strong Brocton side. In the warm sunshine, a good crowd for the holiday season saw Warwick entertain a side relegated last season and it took just four minutes for the Racers to take the lead. The returning Alex Price who missed last weeks opener at Bolehall, put in a fine cross from the right for Adam Knight to stab home despite protests that the ball didn't cross the line. Church almost got onto a Knight square ball at the far post but some fine defending prevented a second. Despite having the lions share of play, with Naven-Jones causing problems down both flanks, Brocton got an equaliser from a free kick deflected in off of the Warwick wall. Warwick picked up the pace and some excellent one touch play from Slevin and Taylor saw Taylor slip in Knight who fired narrowly over on 35 minutes. Knight then switched play from the left to Taylor who's flighted ball was knocked down by church for Knight to control, turn and fire low into the corner. With the score at half-time the same as the previous week, Warwick knew they would need to ensure chances were put away this time around and it took just three minutes for a well worked throw-in to be knocked on by Church, leaving the defender no chance other than to head into his own goal with Knight right behind looking for his hat-rick. Another swivel shot from Knight was cleared off the line and a Leaver shot was likewise cleared off the line before Leaver then fired narrowly wide. Brocton pulled a goal back on 70 minutes when the centre forward was left free in the box to score into an open net and a good tip-over from Cross and good defending from the backline of Hutchcox, Blunsom, Carter and Taylor ensured that Warwick picked up all three points to sit joint second after the opening two games in the league. Warwick face Paget Rangers next Saturday, 19th August, 3pm kickoff.
