Ben Mackey returned to haunt his old club on his Coventry United return with a superb first half hatrick that stunned the Racers. With three Centre Halves missing and several injuries hampering the side it looked like a hard afternoon was in store. This was proved right when right from the off Cox thread the ball out left to Williams whose powerful low drive was saved by stopper Caviezel-Cox but Mackey stabbed in the rebound to score on just 15 seconds. United forced four quick corners and it looked like it was going to be an afternoon to test the defensive qualities of the home side but Racing responded winning four corners of their own. Just when it looked like Racing were right back in it, in the 19th minute a Beckley square ball into the area saw Mackey double the Reds lead. The Racing keeper had to pull off two world class saves to keep Coventry out. The lively Smith almost pulled one back for Racing beating the keeper but seeing the defender Prinzel clear off the line. Smith then turned Prinzel inside out before shooting just wide.On the stroke of half time Mackey effectively ended Racing's fight back with a well timed header at the far post after a pin point O'Grady cross.Second half and Racing immediately gave themselves a chance when Jervis was brought down. Smith stepped up and sent Morris, another Racing old boy, the wrong way. Racing had the better possession in the second half but never really looked like performing the minor miracle that was required. Warwick travel to Nuneaton on Saturday.
