Racing Club Warwick put seven past Coventry Alvis as their pre-season exploded into form and goals.
Under a blistering sun, Racing were quickly in the ascendency with new signing Matty Gardner being denied in the first minute. Despite the pressure from Warwick it was Alvis who struck first when a wickedly moving ball beat Under 23 debutant 'keeper Lewis McKay from twenty five yards. Warwick without several players due to Covid isolation continued with the possession football and the impressive Eli Bako was chopped down on the edge of the area. Sam Jackson fired in the free-kick to level up the game.
Racing took the lead when a shot from Riley Keasey was spilled and Luke Rowe cleverly stabbed the ball to Gardner to poke home.
Second half and debutant Jordan McKenzie, returning to the club where he starred in the youth team several years ago, won two tackles and slid the ball through to Gardner to round the keeper for his second.
A crossfield ball from Jackson saw Junior Mpofu cross for Gardner to bang in his hatrick and it was all Warwick now.
Tyreece Ruddock replaced Mpofu and it was no let up for the Alvis back line. Ruddock jinked through on the right and was brought down for Gardner to side foot home to the keepers right his fourth from the spot. McKenzie then fed Jackson on the right and his long run was eventually halted when again a penalty was awarded. Again, Gardner slid home to the keepers right for his fifth and Racings sixth.
The game was well and truly wrapped up with Gardner's double hatrick strike. A mix-up in the Alvis back line gave the ball to Gardner who turned and scored from twenty yards.
Racing entertain Rugby Town on Tuesday evening at Townsend Meadow.
