Racers unlucky not to take anything from tight game

Racing Club Warwick entertained promotion hopefuls Romulus and provided a major scare in a second half onslaught.

Warwick who were recently beaten 6-0 at the visitors Castle Vale home were boosted by the returning Ciaron Houston but were without Dale Wigmore from Saturday's game at Stourport. Racing also gave a start to Academy players Sacha Everard and Jack Girling who had both been substitutes on Saturday and they joined another academy player Joe Davison in the starting line-up.

The game started brightly on a pitch that many thought should not have been passed as playable but it took just seven minutes for Roms to take the lead when from a corner Jordan Nadat headed home. Racing responded well and a Danny Fraser corner was headed wide by Everard. Romulus doubled their lead when a long shot was only parried by James Wardle and Josh Willis bundled the ball over the line. The referee initially didn't give the goal and the linesman wasn't obviously flagging for one but after discussion they decided the ball had gone over the line and rightly so.

Tom Smith and Nick Seabourne combined superbly on the left and Smith travelled down the flank before picked out Seabourne in the box but his effort was well saved by the Roms keeper. Some superb football then saw Seabourne slip in Sam Jackson on the left and his pull-back to Smith was cleverly flicked over his shoulder before his shot was again well saved by the keeper. Roms headed over on the stroke of half time but went in 2 up in a now more closely fought half.

Second half and Muzzy Nduna came on for Houston who had been injured. Everard fed Danny Fraser who slipped the ball down the line to Sam Jackson who skipped inside the full back before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the far corner on 61 minutes. In almost a repeat move Davison fed Smith who's ball into Jackson was again touched inside but this time the shot from a little further out was saved by the keeper. It was all Racing for the next ten minutes as they looked to get the equaliser. Nduna was causing major problems on the right side and knocked back for Hutchcox who's line ball was crossed by Smith into Jackson who teed up Davison who's shot was parried away. Smith almost bundled the ball in from the rebound but it agonisingly went along the six yard box. Ben Mackey and Beckham Whalley were introduced as Racing played some delightful football on a worsening pitch. A Jackson long range effort went straight to the keeper and as Racing pushed and pushed Roms hit them on the break to finally finish off a superb effort from the hosts, Alex Tompkinson delightfully curling home from the edge of the box.

Racing entertain Worcester on Saturday as the look to avenge a 9-0 thumping earlier in the season. Kickoff 3pm at Townsend Meadow.
