Racers in back to back wins

Racing Club Warwick hosted their close rivals Coventry Sphinx and on a cold night recorded back to wins in the league for the first time this season.

Racing started brightly and in the second minute an Amenku corner was headed clear to Trea Bertie on the edge of the box and his superb half volley was fizzing into the top corner before ex Racer Tom Cross turned it round the post. From the resulting corner skipper Scott Turner, on his return after an achilles injury lay-off, had a header cleared off the line. The game then evened out and it was the 26th minute before a Danny Fraser shot was again well saved by Cross. For all the Racing chances, Sphinx looked dangerous on the break with the hard working Lawrence Rawlins and his partner on the night Chester. and it was Chester who almost gave sphinx the lead but Charlie Bannister pulled off a fine save just before the break.

Second half started fairly evenly but it was Sphinx who struck first. A super Rawlings through ball fed Chester who slotted well past Bannister on 59 minutes to stun the healthy crowd of 183.

This galvanised Racing and Fraser and Ty Knight started to cause problems out wide and it was Knight on 69 minutes who played Danico Johnson down the wing and received the return pass for Knight to slot the ball under Cross for the equaliser. It was mainly all Racing now and they got their noses in front on 78 minutes. A Free kick on half way was taken quickly by Kevin Thornton to Knight on the wing who crossed into the box to Johnson who knocked it passed his man and smashed the ball past Cross.

It was in the dying embers on 94 minutes when the third came. With Warwick keeping the ball in the corner, it quickly gets played to Knight on the wing who turned well and played into Bertie in the box and with his back to goal turned his man before placing it firmly past Cross.

Racing are back in action on Saturday 9th November against Tividale, kickoff 3pm at Townsend Meadow.
