Racing draw ending 9 game win streak
Racing Club Warwick's run of nine straight wins came to an end in an entertaining encounter at Townsend Meadow against Leicester Road.
With Luke Cole, Joe Smith, Alex Price and George Curry all missing, Warwick were looking to take advantage of this catch-up game knowing that a win would put them joint top with a game in hand and they got off to the perfect start when Ben Mackey held off a strong challenge before firing home on six minutes. Mackey almost doubled the lead a few minutes later but the keeper saved well. The game then evened out and Leicester Road looked very threatening moving forward and Sean Castleton and Scott Turner in particular were called upon on several occasions to keep the lead intact.
Second half and Trea Bertie cut inside from the left but the ball was taken off his foot just as he was about to strike. Leicester Road broke quickly and Nuno Gomes did superbly to take the ball into his stride and fire home past Charlie Bannister on 56 minutes.
Racing pressed and pressed and Rich Powell and Marc Passey pushed on from the back to add width. Passey crossed superbly for Bertie who's first time shot rattled the side netting to the dismay of the home support on the other side who thought the ball had gone in. Bertie then got away on the left but with Mackey free in the box Bertie's shot was well saved. Jack Cresswell's free-kick was narrowly headed wide by Turner and Adam Knight then came agonisingly close to a last minute winner but he was foiled by the Road keeper and a draw was probably a fair result on the day.
Racing host Uttoxeter Town on Tuesday evening, 745 kickoff at Townsend Meadow.
