Racing Club's League Cup campaign was ended by Stourport Swifts in a game switched to Stourbridge due to Stourport's unfortunate ground flooding situation. To donate to the Swifts Just Giving page see bottom of the report.
With local lads Joe Davison and Beckham Whalley making debuts there were many positives with the clubs first game post the Scott Easterlow era and with a return to the side for Ben Mackey and Sam Jackson starting for the first time for the Racers they begun brightly although they fell behind on ten minutes after a super lobbed strike from Jack Downing beat James Wardle in the Racers goal.
Right from the kick-off a lack of time together undid Racing as they lost the ball in possession and Nathan Binner doubled the lead after intercepting the ball and driving into the penalty box before unleashing a well driven shot. Stourport then came close again striking the post before Joey Billingham fired home a third after the ball wasn't cleared with the ball reaching the back post from a low cross form the left.
Muzzy Nduna fired over for Racing and Mackey did superbly to intercept a stray back-pass before firing in a shot well saved by the keeper before they did get the opportunity to get back into the seemingly lost game when Mackey was brought down in the box after Tom smith had intercepted the ball and slipped him in, but the keeper saved well from the driven spot-kick.
Second half and Warwick looked more assured as the half progressed with some good football being played on the excellent surface. Dale Wigmore was introduced on the right hand side and immediately altered the attacking impetus with Nduna going central. Sam Jackson on the left backed up by Danny Fraser combined well with Tom Smith on several occasions and saw the Racers looking more comfortable together and they delivered some telling opportunities that were starting to trouble Stourport. A Fraser free-kick was then well saved by the Stourport stopper and the game was now more open. Sacha Everard came on for a third Warwick debut of the afternoon and Wardle saved well to deny Downing before Swifts struck the woodwork again but the game ended three nil to the hosts.
Racing face Romulus at home on Tuesday before hosting Worcester on Saturday as they look to avenge their two worst defeats of the season (6-0 and 9-0) against the two sides.
