Racing Club Warwick went to the top of table after beating promotion rivals Leicester Road in a tight knit affair.
Warwick went into the game with new signing Trayvon Powell adding to the midfield and they started brightly with Alex Price pulling the strings and feeding the front two of Trea Bertie and Ben Mackey. Jak Jey's playing for Leicester Road after leaving Warwick recently was well marshalled throughout by the commanding Scott Turner and Sean Castleton and right from the off it appeared that the hosts were not that intent on applying too much pressure on Warwick. In a half of few chances it was surprising that the opening and only goal came right at the start of the second half. In the now driving rain, Richard Powell delivered a teasing cross which the Road keeper hesitated on and Trea Bertie pounced to slot home. Bertie then fired in a fierce drive from 25 yards but the goal was ruled out for offside with Bertie dropping back from an offside position.
The goal meant Leicester Road had to push forward but Joe Smith and Rich Powell alongside Castleton and Turner looked solid, particularly with the imperious Chris Johnston in front of them. Jey's almost got away near the end but Charlie Bannister saved well to secure a valuable win.
This weekend sees the reverse fixture as Leicester Road travel to Townsend Meadow, 3pm kickoff.
