Racing Club Warwick have secured promotion to the Midland Football League Premier on a dramatic final day of the season. Needing to better Atherstone's score, who were playing at home to Heather St John's, the drama swung backwards and forwards as Racing went one up before Atherstone had done the same. When Stapenhill pegged the Racers back the dream looked a long way off but at half time news had filtered through that Heather had also equalised. When Marc Passey put Racers 1-2 up, news came through that Heather had also gone ahead and the travelling contingents joy was obvious. Racing were now secure with further goals to extend their lead but with over half an hour left the fans nerves were in tatters as they now needed Heather to at least hold the Adders. With the game ending at Stapenhill and the news Heather had scored a penalty to extend their lead, scenes of celebration started as the Champagne was opened. The league rep made the dash from Atherstone over to Stapenhill and presented the players with their medals and the club with the shield and Racing had done it...Promotion was secure on the eve of their 100th anniversary and with a whole host of records broken along the way!
It is going to be some party year!
