Local prolific hit-man returns to club

Racing Club Warwick are delighted to announce that local prolific striker Ben Mackey has committed to the club for the 2018/19 season.

Mackey who played a big part in Leamington's rise started his career at Coventry City where he become the club's youngest first team player before moving to us at Racing Club and onto Brakes.

After 92 games and 57 goals for Brakes, Mackey moved to Brackley Town where he was third top scorer in the league with 24 goals. He then signed for Conference North side Corby Town in June 2010 where he scored 10 league goals in the first half of the 2010/11 season before an injury. In November 2011, Mackey signed for Evesham United, who at the time played in the Evo-Stik Premier League Southern before a move to St Neots who he helped win the Southern League Central becoming a fans favourite.

The following season, he moved to Stourbridge F.C. and finished second highest scorer in the league with 29 goals. He signed for Hemel Hempstead Town where he set the club record for number of goals scored in one season whilst helping them win the league title before a return to Leamington where he finished the season as the club's top goal scorer with 15 in the league and six in cup matches.

Manager Scott Easterlow said 'It’s important the club keeps progressing every week, every month, every season and so on. Having Ben on board this early ready for the 2018-2019 campaign,shows which way the club is heading and shows our intentions for next season. Bens another Warwick lad and has always said to me Racing has a special place in his heart as a football club and he now wants to do his bit to get the club back where we both think they should be'.

Mackey commented 'I’ve been away from football for a bit and I’m excited to be coming back to my local club who got me back into football 10 years ago after leaving Coventry city and thinking I’d never play again. I’m Looking forward to joining a strong side with ambitions of winning the league and improving the club on & off the field'.
